Packing Tips

Top tips from our industry experts

Declutter

The key to an efficient packing process is to declutter, declutter, declutter!

We strongly advise initiating your move with a thorough decluttering phase. This is the perfect opportunity to rid yourself of items that no longer serve a purpose in your life.

Over time, it's natural to accumulate numerous possessions, but not all of them need to journey with you to your new home. Consider donating items of decent quality to charitable organisations like the Salvation Army or the British Heart Foundation, who welcome secondhand goods. This not only lightens your load but also contributes positively to those in need.

Packing Materials

To start, you will need several materials here's what we would suggest you to have;

Boxes, Wardrobe boxes, Scissors, Brown tape, Fragile tape, Tape dispensers, Packing paper, Bubblewrap, Sharpie & some optional items are vacum bags, Jumbo Laundry Bags

If It Can Fit in a Box, Put It in a Box

When it comes to packing, we recommend starting with non-fragile items first. Everything non-fragile that can fit into a box should be put in to a box, this should include all miscellaneous items as loose items can add time to your moving day and increase the risk of being broken.

Fragile Items

It’s important to wrap all fragile items. When packing crockery, china, glassware or sentimental, fragile items etc, make use of packing paper, newspaper and bubblewrap. Use any excess packing paper to fill in any gaps inside the boxes to prevent your items from shifting around whilst being moved.

Labels

If you are packing your own home, we would encourage you to not mix items from different rooms together and to label everything. Not only will this help the movers to know where to put your items but save you time and stress when organising and unpacking. We both know you just want to settle into your new home.

Pictures, Mirrors and Televisions

Any small pictures or mirrors that can fit into a box, you guessed it, you can put into a box. Our team will look after any picture frames or mirrors that are too big for boxes by using our picture frame covers. If you have the original box for the TVs, please do use these, however, if you don’t, we will bring our padded TV covers to protect your TVs whilst in transit.

Wardrobe Boxes

These are fantastic for moving items like suits, dresses and any items that are on hangers. We have our own which we use for our packing moves and these can also be rented.

If you do require our wardrobe boxes, just let us know before moving day and we will arrive on the day with them to look after your clothes.

Large Items

Concerned about your mattress and sofa? Unsure how to pack them? Leave it to us! We will wrap and cover your sofas, armchairs, mattresses on moving day to ensure they are looked after.

Essentials

It’s always a good idea to keep a bag full of essential items you will need leading up to moving day. A spare saucepan, plastic cutlery, toiletries, chargers, towels, baby food, pet food and a first aid kit are a few items that might be handy leaving until last minute to pack.
